Start at ledger.com/start — Secure your crypto the right way

Ledger hardware wallets put you in control of your private keys. Whether you’re new to crypto or upgrading security, our step-by-step starter at ledger.com/start helps you set up, protect, and manage your digital assets with confidence.

  1. 1. Unbox & verify your device

Receive your Ledger hardware wallet and verify the tamper-evident packaging. Genuine devices always arrive sealed. Learn what to check at ledger.com/start.

  2. 2. Initialize and set a PIN

Power up and follow on-screen prompts to set a secure PIN. This PIN protects access to your device and is required for every transaction.

  3. 3. Backup your recovery phrase

Write down the recovery phrase on the included card and store it offline in a secure place. Never share it. Your recovery phrase is the only way to restore funds if the device is lost.

  4. 4. Install Ledger Live

Download Ledger Live and connect your device to manage apps, check balances, and receive updates. Ledger Live is the official management app referenced at ledger.com/start.

  5. 5. Add crypto accounts & transact

Install the crypto apps you need (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.), create accounts, and begin sending/receiving funds securely. Confirm each transaction on-device.

Tip: Keep your recovery phrase offline. Treat it like the keys to a safe — because it is one.
